A security-services check runs the entire first stage, not a formality

Egypt
citizenship by investment

A direct treasury contribution from $250,000 with full citizenship. The first six months are not a paperwork formality — they are a genuine check of the applicant by Egyptian security services.

Four routes to choose from

The treasury contribution is the fastest, most direct route. The other three cost more but give something back in return: real estate, a business stake, or a partly refundable deposit.

How the process runs

01
Pre-screening
The CIU (Citizenship by Investment Unit) checks eligibility, nationality acceptance, and the legal source of funds before the main process begins.
02
Registering the application
The Registration Department processes documents within 3 business days and flags any missing items.
03
Security-services check
The entire first stage (around 6 months) checks the applicant against Egyptian security-authority databases — a genuine review, not a formality.
04
Preliminary approval
Within 3–6 months the Prime Minister issues preliminary approval, and the applicant receives a 6-month residence permit.
05
Final decision and passport
Limited in-person presence in Egypt is required for biometrics, medical checks, and collecting the final passport.

A good fit if

Your nationality is accepted by the programme and your source of funds is easy to document — the key filter at the pre-screening stage.
You are ready for a genuine security-services check, not a formal due-diligence pass like some other countries.
The treasury contribution appeals to you as the fastest and most direct of the four routes.
You do not need a government registry of licensed immigration agents — Egypt has none.

A poor fit if

Your nationality is not accepted by the programme — this is determined at the very first, pre-screening stage, before the main filing.
You need a result faster than six months — the security check alone takes about 6 months.
You want your capital back in the original currency — the only partly-refundable route (deposit) returns funds in Egyptian pounds, not the currency invested.
Your source of funds is hard to document — it is checked especially carefully at every stage here.

Who runs this programme

Your request goes to two or three firms from this list. You see exactly which ones before it is sent, and you can exclude any of them.

Frequent questions

How real is the security-services check?

It is not a formality — the entire first stage of the process, about 6 months, is dedicated specifically to checking the applicant against Egyptian security-authority databases. An application can be refused at this stage even with formally correct paperwork.

Is every nationality accepted into the programme?

No, nationality acceptance is checked at the pre-screening stage before the main process starts — a first filter that can reject an application right away.

Can you get the invested money back?

Only via the bank deposit route ($500,000) — and even then the refund comes in Egyptian pounds after 3 years, not the original currency. The treasury contribution ($250,000) is entirely non-refundable.

Does Egypt have a registry of licensed immigration agents?

No, like Turkey, the UAE, and Panama — there is no single government registry of intermediaries; firms are selected by registration and track record.

Who can be included in the application?

Confirmed individually with the appointed firm — family composition and dependant fees vary by route.

How long does the whole process really take?

6–12 months from filing to passport, depending on the complexity of due diligence and the chosen investment route.
