The only Caribbean passport with a path to the US E-2 visa

Grenada
citizenship by investment

The only Caribbean programme that opens a path to the US E-2 visa — but not immediately: it requires 3 years of residence in Grenada after getting the passport, and we say so plainly.

A fund contribution or real estate

The National Transformation Fund is a non-refundable contribution and the fastest route. Real estate costs more but preserves capital: the asset can be resold after 5 years, with rental income throughout.

What the full cost consists of

Due diligence is lighter here than at some regional neighbours, but it is not free — it applies to everyone aged 17 and over, including the spouse and sponsor.

How the process runs

01
Preparing documents
The due diligence package — bank statements, criminal record certificates, source-of-funds documentation.
02
Filing and due diligence
The IMA (Investment Migration Agency) begins the check after a complete package is received — typically 3–6 months.
03
Interview
Mandatory for the main applicant, spouse, sponsor, and every dependant 17 and over. Can be conducted remotely.
04
Approval and final payment
After approval-in-principle, the remaining contribution and all government fees are paid.
05
Citizenship and passport issuance
The naturalisation certificate is issued and passport production begins right after payment is confirmed.

A good fit if

You are eventually interested in a US business through an E-2 visa — Grenada is the only country in the region offering this path, even if not instantly.
You want a second passport with no years-long naturalisation and no stay requirement.
Your budget covers $235,000+ and you can document the source of funds.
Visa-free entry to China matters to you — a rare advantage among Caribbean passports.

A poor fit if

You need an E-2 visa right after getting the passport — you actually need 3 years of residence in Grenada before applying for E-2.
You want your money back: the NTF route is non-refundable; only real estate preserves capital.
Your source of funds is hard to document.
You need status that lets you live and work in the EU — Grenadian citizenship does not grant that.

Who runs this programme

Your request goes to two or three firms from this list. You see exactly which ones before it is sent, and you can exclude any of them.

Frequent questions

Can you get a US E-2 visa right away?

No. A new Grenadian citizen must live in the country for at least 3 years AFTER getting the passport before applying for E-2 — a separate process with its own US investment threshold.

Is there a stay requirement to keep citizenship?

Not today. Changes are expected from mid-2026 (a discussed 30-day-over-5-years requirement and mandatory biometrics under the regional regulator ECCIRA) — announced but not yet in force; we are watching for updates.

NTF or real estate — which to choose?

NTF is faster and requires no asset management, but the money is not returned. Real estate from $270,000 costs more but stays yours — resell after 5 years and collect rent throughout.

Who can be included in the application?

A spouse, children, parents, and other dependants — due diligence applies to everyone aged 17 and over, including the spouse and the family sponsor.

Why does visa-free China matter?

It is nearly unique among Caribbean passports — most of Grenada’s competitors do not offer that access.

How long does it really take?

A well-prepared application takes 4–6 months from filing. With document preparation counted, a realistic total is up to 8 months.
