Three categories — income, experience, or degree

What the process consists of

No Hong Kong job offer is required for any of the three categories — this sets TTPS apart from most work visas in the region.

How the process runs

01
Choosing a category
A (income), B (degree + experience), or C (recent graduate) — depending on which criterion the applicant meets.
02
Gathering income or degree evidence
For Category A — tax returns and income documents for the preceding year; for B/C — a degree from a recognised university.
03
Filing the application
Through the official Immigration Department portal — no sponsor or employer needed.
04
Receiving the 2-year permit
Initial term of 2 years, not tied to a specific employer.
05
Renewal or status change
Renewal is possible on expiry while the applicant still meets the criteria.

A good fit if

Your annual income for the preceding year is at least HK$2.5M — then Category A is available without a degree or experience.
You have a recognised-university degree and 3+ years of experience in the last 5 years — then Category B, with no quota limit.
You recently graduated from a recognised university (under 3 years’ experience) — then Category C, subject to the annual quota.
The absence of a job-offer requirement matters — none of the three TTPS categories require actual Hong Kong employment.

A poor fit if

Your income is below HK$2.5M, you have no recognised-university degree, or you lack 3 years of experience — none of the three categories formally fit.
You are filing under Category C after the annual quota has closed — applications are processed first-come, first-served.
You need certainty on the path to Hong Kong permanent residence — this aspect is not covered in the available research on this page.
Profits from your own companies are not backed by continuous share ownership through the assessment year — Category A income does not count without this condition.

Frequent questions

Why doesn’t the site flag Hong Kong dollar volatility?

Because the HKD is pegged to the US dollar within a narrow 7.75–7.85 band since 1983 — an official policy of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (Linked Exchange Rate System), not a floating market rate. Currency risk here is minimal compared with most other currencies in this index.

What counts as income for Category A?

Taxable employment or business income: salary, allowances, stock options, and profits from own companies — provided the applicant continuously held company shares through the assessment year.

Is a Hong Kong job offer required?

No — not for any of the three TTPS categories. This is a key difference from the General Employment Policy (Hong Kong’s work visa), which requires actual employment.

What is the difference between Categories B and C?

B is for graduates of recognised universities with 3+ years of experience in the last 5 years, with no cap on applications. C is for recent graduates with less experience, subject to an annual quota.

What if income was high two years ago but not last year?

Only income for the year immediately preceding the filing date counts — older periods are not formally recognised.

Does TTPS lead to permanent residence?

This aspect is not officially confirmed in the available research — separate verification is needed before making a long-term decision.
