Frequent questions
Why is the amount expressed as a "multiple" of the living minimum?
Because Slovak law uses the životné minimum as a calculation base — an official government figure revised twice a year, rather than a fixed euro sum that would go stale.
How often does the living minimum change?
1 January and 1 July every year, set by the Ministry of Labour (MPSVR SR). The figure on this page is current for the period from 01.07.2026.
What is the difference between the sole-trader and LLC-director thresholds?
A sole trader (self-employed activity) requires 20x ŽM; a commercial company director (s.r.o.) requires 100x ŽM — five times more. The difference reflects the different level of corporate liability.
Can funds be confirmed via a foreign bank account?
Yes — a statement is accepted from either a Slovak or a foreign bank, in the applicant’s name.
How long is the residence permit valid?
Up to 3 years, with renewal available while the business and the corresponding financial security are maintained.
Do I need to register the business before filing for residence?
Yes — registering the trade licence or founding the company is a prerequisite required before filing for Prechodný pobyt.
